Springfield Firefighters Respond to Fully Involved Vehicle Fire on I-90

Springfield Township, PAThis evening at 7:17 PM, firefighters from the Springfield Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched to a reported vehicle fire near the 1 mile marker eastbound on I-90, just east of the Ohio state line. Erie County 911 relayed that the vehicle was reportedly fully involved in the eastbound lanes. Springfield units quickly confirmed the call and began responding.Engine 643, Engine 644, and Utility 646 went enroute to the incident. Upon arrival, Engine 643 confirmed a working vehicle fire with heavy fire conditions evident. Chief 650 arrived shortly after and assumed Incident Command. Crews deployed a handline and initiated an aggressive fire attack. The fire was brought under control quickly, preventing further extension and allowing crews to begin overhaul operations.At 8:10 PM, Chief 650 reported units were clearing the interstate. The scene was turned over to the Pennsylvania State Police, who remained on location awaiting a tow company. No injuries were reported.

Quick Action Contained Vehicle and Shed Fire on Oxbow Road; No Injuries Reported

North East Township, PAThis afternoon at 2:53 PM, firefighters from the North East Fire Department were dispatched to a reported vehicle fire in the vicinity of 8400 Oxbow Road. Erie County dispatch advised responding units that a vehicle was reportedly on fire in the driveway. Engine 202 and Engine 212 went enroute shortly after.Engine 202 arrived on scene at 3:05 PM and advised one vehicle fully involved with a shed on fire and advised that crews were putting two handlines into service. Additionally, crews on scene requested a tanker out of South Ripley as a precaution. 20L1 assumed commands of the fire operations on Oxbow Road. At the scene, crews initiated an aggressive attack, simultaneously knocking down the vehicle fire and the shed involvement, effectively halting any further spread.At 3:08 PM, command advised the bulk of the fire was knocked down and advised that county could release the tanker out of South Ripley. Engine 212 arrived on scene a few moments later, where personnel assisted with overhaul of the vehicle and the shed. A portable fan was used to provide positive pressure ventilation to clear smoke and heat from the shed.Crews were placed back in service at around 3:45 PM. No injuries were reported.

Vehicle Fire Along I-90 Quickly Contained by Springfield Firefighters

Springfield Township, PAThis afternoon at approximately 1:30 PM, first responders from the Springfield Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched to a reported vehicle fire near the 4-mile marker westbound on I-90. Shortly after the initial dispatch, the location was updated to the 6-mile marker, where it was reported that a towed vehicle was on fire.Engines 643 and 644, along with Utility 646, responded to the scene. Engine 643 was first to arrive and found one vehicle, being towed by another, with a working fire in the engine compartment. Extension was made into the cab area of the towed vehicle. Engines 643 and 644 accessed the scene via the westbound entrance ramp, as the vehicles were located near that area of the interstate. Utility 646 relocated to the east side of the incident and assisted with traffic control.Crews deployed a handline from Engine 643 and began fire suppression efforts. The fire was brought under control within three minutes of arrival.Personnel remained on scene until the arrival of the Pennsylvania State Police.

Fairview Township, PAAt approximately 1:10 PM, Fairview Fire and Rescue were dispatched to the area of 8470 Middle Road in Fairview Township for a reported vehicle fire. Prior to their arrival, Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) confirmed the vehicle was actively burning and attempted to extinguish the fire using a fire extinguisher, but their efforts were unsuccessful.Upon arrival, Fairview’s Engine 534 quickly deployed a bumper line to initiate a primary attack on the fire. Firefighters swiftly brought the flames under control. After extinguishing the fire, crews utilized thermal imaging cameras to check for any remaining hotspots and ensure the fire was completely out.The scene was cleared, and crews returned to service approximately 45 minutes after the initial dispatch.

West Springfield, PAThis afternoon, around 4 PM, the Springfield Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a reported vehicle fire in the eastbound lanes, just beyond the 3-mile marker and east of Exit 3. Crews were informed that a semi-truck was actively on fire, though the fire had not extended to the trailer. Engines 643 and 644 responded promptly to the scene, with 64L3 directing Engine 643 to position behind it. The crews swiftly brought the fire under control, and thankfully, no injuries were reported.

Crews Quickly Contain Vehicle Fire Threatening Building on West Lake Road

Fairview Township, PAThis afternoon, around 1:45 PM, Fairview Fire and Rescue along with Lake Shore Fire Department crews were dispatched to a reported vehicle fire threatening a building near 7400 West Lake Road. Ladder 509 from Lake Shore and Engine 534 from Fairview responded promptly after dispatch. Dispatch reported that multiple callers confirmed an active vehicle fire.Ladder 509 arrived on the scene first, followed closely by Engine 534. Chief 530 assumed incident command and requested fire police for traffic control.Crews from Ladder 509 and Engine 534 deployed bumper lines and quickly attacked the fire, bringing it under control in a short time. They then performed an overhaul on the vehicle to extinguish any remaining hotspots and checked the nearby structure for signs of fire extension.

Cranesville Responds to Fully Involved Car Fire in Conneaut Township

Conneaut Township, PAThis afternoon, shortly after 2:30 PM, fire and EMS personnel from the Cranesville Fire Department were dispatched to a reported vehicle fire with burn victims near 14400 Route 226. West County 110 was initially dispatched for ambulance services, responding from St. Vincent. Due to the severity of the incident, Chief 600 requested STAT MedEvac to be placed on standby. Dispatch later advised Chief 600 that STAT MedEvac had an estimated arrival time of 32 minutes.With West County 110 potentially delayed by up to 30 minutes, Chief 600 requested an ALS transport unit from Conneaut, Ohio, to respond to the scene. As Conneaut was expected to arrive first, West County 110 was released from service. STAT MedEvac was also later placed back in service.Cranesville’s 617 was the first to arrive, finding a single vehicle fully engulfed in flames. Engine 602 arrived moments later, and the fire was brought under control within three minutes of Engine 602’s arrival.The cause of the fire is under investigation. Pennsylvania State Police were also on the scene.

Swift Response Contained Agricultural Vehicle Fire Near Thrasher Road

Elk Creek Township, PAThis afternoon, shortly after 3:30 PM, first responders from the Cranesville Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched to a reported combine fire, in a field, near 9800 Thrasher Road. Within four minutes of the initial dispatch, Engine 602, Engine 604, and Utility 609 were en route to the scene. While the units were still responding, 64L1, who was in the vicinity, confirmed that the combine was fully engulfed in flames and positioned approximately 200-250 yards off the roadway within the field.Upon arrival, Chief 600 took command of the incident and directed the suppression efforts. Utility 609, a brush truck designed for off-road maneuverability as opposed to a fire engine, made its way into the field to begin fire suppression operations. After assessing field conditions and confirming they were firm enough for transit, Engine 602 entered the field to support operations by providing additional water to refill Utility 609 and deploying an extra handline to enhance fire suppression. Engine 604 remained at the road.Through a coordinated effort, crews were able to contain the fire, and Chief 600 reported the fire to be under control at approximately 3:54 PM, roughly 20 minutes after the initial dispatch. The swift response and effective teamwork of the Cranesville Volunteer Fire Department units prevented the fire from spreading into the field and minimized further damage to the surrounding area. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.Overall, this incident highlights the importance of rapid response and strong coordination in successfully managing rural fire scenarios, especially when dealing with challenging off-road access and heavy equipment fires.

Fully Involved Vehicle Fire at Struchen Flats Park Quickly Controlled by Fire Crews

Fairview Township, PAThis afternoon at just before 1:30 PM, crews from Fairview Fire and Rescue and Lake Shore Fire Department were dispatched to a reported vehicle fire at Struchen Flats Park at the end of Platz Road. Incoming units were advised that the vehicle reportedly rolled down the hill and then became engulfed in flames. Chief 520 was first on scene and reported that one vehicle was over the hill and fully involved in fire. Engine 502 arrived first on scene and quickly put an attack line into service. As the crew from Engine 502 was pulling line, Engine 534 and Utility 529 arrived on scene. A booster line from Engine 534 was also put in service to assist with fire suppression efforts. Utility 529 assisted with traffic police at the top of the hill. Within 10 minutes of the fire apparatus being on scene, the fire was marked under control.Chief 520 was first on scene and reported that one vehicle was over the hill and fully involved in fire. Engine 502 arrived first on scene and quickly put an attack line into service. As the crew from Engine 502 was pulling line, Engine 534 and Utility 529 arrived on scene. A booster line from Engine 534 was also put in service to assist with fire suppression efforts. Utility 529 assisted with traffic police at the top of the hill. Within 10 minutes of the fire apparatus being on scene, the fire was marked under control. Once the fire was extinguished and overhauling was complete, crews utilized a thermal imaging camera to ensure that hotspots were eliminated.The Pennsylvania State Police were also on scene. The vehicle was towed from the scene by West County Towing. No injuries were reported, and no further information is available at this time.

Platea Firefighters Tackle Two Fully Involved Tractor Fires on Francis Road

Girard Township, PAThis evening at just after 7 PM, firefighters from Platea Volunteer Fire Company were dispatched to a reported vehicle fire in the area of 8600 Francis Road. When Engine 592 went enroute, crews were advised that a tractor was on fire in front of the residence. Crews arrived shortly after to two fully involved tractors on fire and utilized an attack line to quickly bring the fire under control. Once the fire was extinguished and crews verified that all hotspots were fully extinguished, Platea returned to the station and went back in service. No injuries were reported.

Multiple callers reported seeing flames coming from the engine compartment. Erie County relayed these reports as Engine 592 responded to the scene. Pennsylvania State Police, already on location, communicated to Erie County to confirm the fire and provided guidance for crews to access the vehicle via the westbound exit ramp facing east.Upon arrival, firefighters quickly deployed a bumper line and initiated fire suppression efforts to contain and extinguish the flames. Utility 599 later arrived to assist with fire police operations, ensuring scene safety and traffic control. Thanks to the swift response, the fire was brought under control without further incident. No injuries were reported.
