Early Morning Crash in Springfield Township Sends Two to Hospital
Narrative
Springfield Township, PA – First responders from Springfield and West County Paramedics Association were dispatched for a reported vehicle accident early Friday morning. The call came in shortly after 6 AM for a reported rollover with ejection near the intersection of Ridge Road and Steenberg Road. Due to the initial reports of the severity, STAT MedEvac was placed on standby as units began responding. West County Unit 112 was advised that the crash involved a partial ejection. WC112 was later advised that STAT MedEvac was canceled due to unfavorable weather conditions.
The first unit to arrive on scene, 64L3, confirmed a two-vehicle collision with significant damage and quickly requested two ALS ambulances to respond. Engine 643, Engine 644, and Utility 646 followed shortly after, arriving to assist with patient care, scene safety, and hazard mitigation. Once Engine 643 arrived on scene, command was established by Chief 640. Springfield personnel assisted West County crews with initial patient stabilization, while additional responders worked to control traffic in the area and clear debris from the roadway. It was determined that no rollover occurred; however, one vehicle had exited the roadway and came to rest in a field, while the other remained on Route 20.
Both West County Units 111 and 112 transported one patient each to a nearby hospital for further treatment. The Pennsylvania State Police are handling the investigation and remained on scene for some time gathering information. A vehicle recovery technician from Eagle Towing was on scene to remove the vehicle from the roadway and neighboring field.
