Narrative
Girard Township, PA – This morning, the Platea Volunteer Fire Company, Springfield Volunteer Fire Company, West County Paramedics, and Pennsylvania State Police responded to a reported motor vehicle accident near mile marker 12 in the westbound lanes. While en route, crews were informed that multiple callers had reported a crash involving two tractor-trailers. Further updates indicated that the driver of a semi had reported striking the Beckman Road bridge, with no injuries reported.
West County 110 and 111 arrived on scene and confirmed that no injuries had occurred. Engine 592 arrived shortly after and placed both Engine 643 and Utility 646 back in service.
At this time, the Beckman Road bridge and sections of Beckman Road have been closed until further notice. PennDOT engineers will assess the structural integrity of the bridge, as a support beam beneath it sustained visible damage from the impact of the semi’s secured load. According to the last Beckman Road Bridge Feasibility Study released in 2023, the bridge has a clearance of just less than 14 feet over the westbound lanes. Additionally, the bridge was already slated for replacement in 2027.
No further details are available at this time.
